Rosewood

Rosewood London is one of the finest five-star hotels in London. Blending English heritage with contemporary sophistication, the Edwardian Grade II-listed building has been transformed from Imperial-era offices into a London luxury hotel & was carried out under the guidance of English Heritage.

The magnificent street frontage, which today is the entrance to Rosewood London, features a central carriageway entrance and dome leading into a grand courtyard, which provides a calm sanctuary away from the bustle of the city.

Inside, the lavish interiors are fitted out with Cuban mahogany and seven types of marble, including extremely rare types such as Swedish Green and Statuary. One of the most dramatic features is the Renaissance-style seven-storey grand staircase, an architectural statement in marble.

One of my favourite spaces is Scarfes Bar, designed by renowned interior designer Martin Brudnizki, it has a roaring fire at one end and wooden bar running along the other. The bespoke fireplace made from metal, antique brass and bronze is 1.8 metres in height and is complemented by a walnut art deco mirror which hangs above it. Over 1000 antique books, handpicked by a Portobello art dealer, take pride of place in the shelves throughout the bar giving the space a warm and welcoming feel whilst the eclectic range of chairs adds instant 1930’s glamour to the bar.

Exploring the upper levels of the property, the iconic Italian Grand Pavonazzo marble staircase leads to all upper floors directly beneath the 166-foot high cupola/dome . The staircase features seven different types of marble, some of which can no longer be found anywhere else in the world. Alternatively the lifts are embellished with traditional moulded leather, wrapped panelling and an alpaca ceiling.

Copper bath of dreams

The Tyne bath is a classic roll top tub based on the 18th-century bateau bath design. The  Tyne is made entirely from copper making it a much lighter design. From Drummonds bathrooms, it comes with a choice of interiors and exteriors finishes. A different take on a bathroom feature.

Agate obsessed

The latest interior design trend is rocking its way into our homes in the most unexpected and beautiful forms.

Agate is characterised by its fineness of grain and brightness of color. Although agates may be found in various kinds of rock, they are classically associated with volcanic rocks and can be common in certain metamorphic rocks

From the tiniest embellishments and accessories to entire rooms dedicated to these beautiful rocks, we’ve got some great ideas how you can incorporate the power of agates in your home décor.

Aquazzura for de Gournay

Here at Grey Rose we are big fans of de Gournay so we were especially excited to see an exclusive collaboration with luxury footwear label Aquazzura; the Florence born brand of visionary designer Edgardo Osorio.

Following an introduction as a result of the de Gournay wallpaper installed within Osorio’s own apartment, the suggestion of a collaboration between the companies particular fields of expertise met with mutual enthusiasm.

Over the course of several meetings, the idea for a line of shoes bearing the print of a unique, hand painted ‘de Gournay for Aquazzura’ artwork took place. The partnership expanded to use the same custom Tropical Chinoiserie motif – the ‘Amazonia’ design –  for a full scale installation within the new Aquazzura premises in Milan: a hand painted rainforest within in the heart of the city.

The range of shoes are exclusive to Matchesfashion.com

We Love Kate!

Nearly three decades in front of a camera lens have given Moss a rich photographic library—which comes in handy with respect to more than just her iconic way of putting clothes together. Her interior-design style is equally innate. Eclectic, she cops to being very hands-on too.

To capture the mood of “a solarized Man Ray picture,” as Moss describes it, Kate teamed up with bespoke-wallpaper house de Gournay to create a silver-tinted anemone pattern (according to Greek mythology, the flower is thought to symbolize luck). The result of an intimate design process, Anemones in Light depicts cascading blooms overlapping shards of solar radiance, and will become part of de Gournay’s permanent collection.

Kate's country residence will soon have some new wall candy to admire as well. Moss has designed a daybreak version of Anemones in Light for her bathroom there (it also adorns a hallway in her London home). “I like the feeling of when the sun is just coming up at a music festival, and you have that glowy light,” she says. “This one is pastels and neons—quite psychedelic.” In other words, perfectly Kate Moss.

Eley kishimoto : "Print the World"

Kirkby fabric have announced an exciting collaboration with "print the world" design studio Eley Kishimoto. Eley Kishimoto is a British Fashion and design company founded in 1992 by Mark Eley and Wakako Kishimoto.

They have produced lines for the likes of Alexander McQueen, Marc Jacobs and Louis Vuitton, to name but a few. Channelling the 1970s this new collection, available through Kirkby fabrics, dabbles with lux textiles and materials such as textured chenilles and layered foil prints. It's a debut fabric collection from the design duo.

Described as a 'demure' colour palette, the bold patterns keep the collection feeling fresh and offers a new alternative in the world of fabrics .
One of my favourites of the collection is the 'Zig Zag Birds' - a modern and unique take on a houndstooth check; tessellated zigzags almost form the silhouettes of flying birds. Available as both a fabric and wall covering.

Balenciaga : Shaping Fashion

Following the hugely successful Alexander McQueen 'Savage Beauty' exhibition, the V&A continues its fashionable theme with its latest offering Balenciaga : Shaping Fashion.

Cristóbal Balenciaga is one of the most revered fashion designers of the twentieth century. His revolutionary shapes and unrivalled craftsmanship shaped the modernity of 1960s fashion and continues to shape fashion today, from the exquisite couture of Givenchy to the avant-garde streetwear of Demna Gvasalia.

The exhibition examines the work and legacy of influential Spanish couturier Cristóbal, with over 100 pieces crafted by ‘the master’ of couture, his protégées and contemporary fashion designers working in the same innovative tradition.
Well worth a visit if you're in London Town.

The exhibition runs from now until Sunday February 18th 2018.

World's Apart

Porta Romana began life in 1988 in a tiny London workshop. From the beginning, the ambition was to create beautiful and inspiring pieces that would be loved. The Porta Romana style and design language has continuously evolved over the following quarter century to become a leading global brand, and a critical ingredient in the world’s most beautiful houses, yachts, hotels and movie sets. The Porta Romana brand has become synonymous with beautiful design made to the highest of standards. With each new collection comes the challenge of creating new finishes.

Their latest offering is the 'Cosmos' collection which consists of console tables, lamps, wall lights, chandeliers & mirrors and is quite literally out of this world.
The palette is made up of ethereal greys and whites, an injection of charcoal, a hint of celadon. Veins of gold and silver meander through creating glimmers of preciousness. Flowing lines and simple shapes. Elegance simplified. This is Cosmos!!

Hippy Shake

Ibiza has strong artistic roots going back to the early '60s when artisans, painters and designers flocked to the island to experience its unique atmosphere, incredible light and freedom of expression. All this comes through in the markets held on the island where handmade items of clothing, jewellery and artefacts can be bought.

The place to be on a sunny Ibiza Saturday is Las Dalias Hippy Market in San Carlos. It's packed with vintage finds and stalls selling straw hats, jewellery, bags, dresses, tops, sandals and throws. A cascade of texture and colour with leather, embroidery, tassels, feathers and beads. Fantastic inspiration!

Aynhoe Park - The Perfect Venue

What Fairytales are made of ...

Aynhoe Park is not just another private country house. At the heart of 250 acres of Cotswolds countryside, the 17th - Century stately 28 bedroom home is a country house of stories and surprises - a place where the extraordinary happens every day. Behind every door and around every corner, Aynhoe has something remarkable to reveal.

A polar bear in flying googles. A pair of plaster caryatids. The Tardis. A giraffe balloon lifted to the ceiling. A wall of vintage globes. An alligator waiter ....

Much of the house's character comes from its one of a kind collection of art and taxidermy, inspired by a combination of appreciation for classical artwork and sculpture, a love of innovative design and a very British sort of eccentricity.

Sir John Soane's statement staircase is framed with unusual rare architectural plaster. Feathered lamps which share a similarity with an illuminated palm tree are adorned with exquisite ostrich feathers and that's only just the start!

Aynhoe is a whimsical wonder which wouldn't be out of place in a fairytale kingdom, it really is a sight to be seen.

Pink Onyx

Grey Rose recently returned from the 56th Annual Milan furniture fair which is the biggest European gathering of designers & manufacturers. One pivotal spot was the array of marble being used anywhere & everywhere and you heard it hear first Pink Onyx - is the new uber luxe material du jour. Coming from the noble family of marble, pink onyx has the innate ability to beautify your surroundings in a deep, translucent, exuberant pink shade. If only it came in blusher!

Out of This World

The most stunning lighting collection I've seen in light years. Anthony Critchlow's range for Best and Lloyd includes lamps, lighting sculptures, pendent lights and for this collection, a beautiful range of mirrors.

The Anemone lamps and balls are organic & mysterious and when lit cast an exotic shadow. They come in a range of sizes and can be made in stainless steel for outdoor sculptures when mounted on spotlights. The Critchlow range also contains the 'Pearl'  which with its shallow depth it's an ideal statement piece for low ceiling environments.  The 'Seapod' also features, an original design of Anthony's which continues to please over & over.

Maddox Gallery

When Clients want perhaps an investment piece or something that stands out from the crowd Maddox Gallery is the go to place. It is housed over four floors of a Victorian townhouse which has been renovated to show the gallery's modern art collection.

They showcase a plethora of up & coming and more seasoned artists including Paul Wright, Bradley Theodore, Michael Moebius, Layercake and many more.

GR's personal fave is Russell Young's pop art 'Marilyn' on a diamond dusted silk screen.

Maddox Gallery will sponsor the ‘Artist of the Year’ category at this year's GQ Men of the Year Awards 2017. The event will be held on 5th September at the Tate Modern.

Living your life like it's Golden

Not just a Jill Scott song but a major trend in Metallics. Good old M&S, not especially known for interiors has brought out a Art Deco'esque gold finished range - the 'Barclay' collection. Simple clean lines define the look with a drinks trolley, shelving unit and console. If you would prefer just a dip into gold perhaps try some smaller accessories like a tray (pics: Zara Home) or a collection of different sized jars.

House of Hoxton

This charming exhibition of screen prints by Illustrator Alice Pattullo is on display at Yorkshire Sculpture Park (17th June - 17th Sept). Her vivid, colourful prints of domestic life through the ages showcase her edge and style. East London based illustrator Pattullo has just designed her first wallpaper and homeware line available to buy at the exhibition.

Flower Power

We love a visit to Chelsea Flower Show for inspiration and an excuse to meander down the Kings Rd and to pop into Chelsea Harbour.

Kate Gould's award winning Fresh Garden at this years RHS Chelsea Flower Show showcased exactly what can be done with a small city living space.

One of my favourite's was Manoj Malde's 'Beneath a Mexican Sky' garden. I loved the painted colourful rendered walls, along with the hardy sculptured plants. The micro-cement contained zinc resin so when polished gives a subtle sheen, an effect repeated in the pool. Stunning!

Balmain

Olivier Rousteing Creative Director of Balmain has teamed up in an exquisite collaboration with Choreographer Sébastian Bertaud for his new work at the Ballet Opéra de Paris, Renaissance.
The nude palette used is a match made in tonal heaven. The peach, nude, blush, mink & champagne mixes all marry nicely with the silvery sequin, clear beading, and intricate embellishment used. A stunning inspiration for a bedroom scheme.

Renaissance runs as part of the Bertaud, Bouché, Paul, Valastro Season at the Opera Garniér - which comes to life from the 13th - 17th June 2017.
